Far away from the city, among silent hills, lived a boy named Adwait. During the summer holidays, his family decided to go on a trip together. While traveling through an unknown route late at night, their car suddenly broke down. There was no mobile network, no help, and darkness surrounded them. At a distance, they noticed an old mansion.
The mansion looked abandoned from the outside—cracked walls, broken gates— but strangely, the inside was spotless and warm, as if someone was still living there. Before they could knock, the door opened on its own.
The First Night Exhausted, the family fell asleep. In the middle of the night, Adwait woke up. He heard someone calling his name softly. When he went downstairs, he saw something impossible: His mother was reliving a childhood memory, laughing like a little girl. His father was talking to a version of himself from years ago—confessing an old sin. His sister was playing with a friend who never existed. The mansion was not trying to scare them. It was feeding on their memories.
The Truth, Adwait discovered an old diary hidden inside a cupboard. Its final page read: “This house does not consume souls. It consumes memories. When every memory is taken, the human becomes nothing more than an empty body.” The next morning was worse. His mother did not recognize him. His father had forgotten how to speak. His sister sat motionless, staring at the wall.
The Bargain, Adwait tried to escape with his family, but the mansion spoke to him: “You may leave… but in return, you must give me one memory.” Adwait gave away his most precious memory— the last happy moment he ever shared with his family. The mansion released him.
Twist Years later, Adwait had become a doctor. One night, a lost family stopped him on a lonely road, asking for a place to stay. Behind them, the same mansion stood silently.
Adwait smiled and said: “It’s very late… You should stay there for the night.”
